Goodbye, Duck Commander. Hello, Camping World.
The Independence Bowl continued its sponsor rotation Thursday with the announcement that the retailer would be the sponsor of its 2015 game and beyond.
“We are excited to begin our partnership of the Independence Bowl and this is a great event to kick off our yearlong celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of our businesses,” Camping World CEO Marcus Lemonis said in a statement “Our customers enjoy the thrill of competitive sports along with the bonding that comes from tailgating. As a company, we have a great appreciation for the tradition of college football and look forward to the fan experience.”
Camping World also sponsors NASCAR's Truck Series, the sport's No. 3 national series. The sponsorship was termed a "multi-year" agreement.
While the Independence Bowl website still has the Duck Commander logo in the bowl logo, the departure of the Duck Dynasty-family's company was not unexpected. News broke in March that the company wasn't returning as a multi-year contract was not reached and the 2014 game was played without a signed contract at all.
Duck Commander also didn't pay a lump sum figure to the bowl, either. According to the Shreveport Times, bowl organizers had hoped to use the popularity of the Duck Commander brand to lure in other partners.
Our guess is that the same arrangement isn't taking place with Camping World. Though we're hoping Camping World decides to keep the garish trophy from 2014.
AdvoCare sponsored the game before Duck Commander, but now the supplement company sponsors the Texas Bowl. The first sponsor of the Indendence Bowl was Poulan WeedEater.
