Texas Tech long snapper Kyle Heffron was seriously injured in a car accident Wednesday morning, according to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal.
Lubbock police said that Heffron was taken to a local hospital after the crash, which took place around 10 a.m. Heffron, a sophomore from San Antonio, is in “stable” condition, a spokesperson from University Hospital told the Avalanche-Journal.
According to KCBD, Heffron’s white pickup truck “crashed into an underpass” at Marsha Sharp Freeway and University Ave., causing him to be ejected from the vehicle. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
A family member said on Twitter that Heffron suffered a “ruptured spleen” and was going into surgery. Other than that, the extent of his injuries are unknown.
"We continue to gather information on Kyle's accident this morning and obviously our primary concern is his health and well-being," Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury said in a statement. "We have been in contact with Kyle's family throughout the day. We all expect that he'll make a full recovery soon."
Heffron, 20, spent his first two seasons with the Red Raiders on the scout team and has not appeared in a game.
