Tennessee offensive lineman Charles Mosley was arrested early Wednesday morning for DUI.
According to VolQuest.com, Mosley, a redshirt freshman, failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody. Additionally, officers found marijuana residue in the vehicle Mosley was driving.
In a statement, Vols head coach Butch Jones said the program is “aware of the situation and at this point in time are in the process of gathering all of the facts and information.”
According to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, Mosley was pulled over a 1:51 a.m. for allegedly driving 79 mph in a 55-mph zone. The arresting officer said he smelled marijuana when he approached the vehicle, but Mosley said he had not been smoking.
From the News-Sentinel:
Mosley told the arresting officer he was returning to campus from the Econo Lodge on Lovell Road.
“The defendant stated that he was not smoking, but his friends at the Econo Lodge were,” the arrest warrant states.
Mosley subsequently performed poorly on a field sobriety test, according to the warrant. The arresting officer searched the vehicle and allegedly found “marijuana residue” in the front passenger area and back seat.
Police said Mosley submitted to a blood draw while in custody and was released from the Knox County detention facility at 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.
Mosley redshirted his first year with the Vols after breaking his leg in a car accident last July. He returned to the practice field this spring and worked with both the offensive and defensive lines.
A native of Brighton, Tenn., the three-star prospect chose the Vols over offers from Alabama, Auburn, and Georgia, among others.
