Minnesota athletic director Norwood Teague has tendered his resignation following complaints of sexual harassment.

Two non-student University employees issued complaints that Teague sent them inappropriate texts two weeks ago. Teague confirmed the allegations to reporters.

Minnesota President Eric Kaler informed the Minnesota staff of Teague’s resignation in a letter on Friday.

To be clear, sexual harassment will not be tolerated at the University of Minnesota and I sincerely regret that our employees experienced this behavior. The University has an explicit policy and a strong code of conduct that articulates our standards. Ensuring a healthy learning, working and living environment for all in our University community is very important.

Kaler said Beth Goetz, deputy athletics director and senior woman administrator, would serve as the interim athletic director while he determines the next steps.

Teague replaced Joel Maturi in April 2012 after spending six years at Virginia Commonwealth University. Teague was championed for hiring men’s basketball coach Richard Pitino and women’s basketball coach Marlene Stollings, and was responsible for fundraising more than $70 million of a $190-million goal for the new Athletes Village, which includes a football practice facility, football performance center, men's and women's basketball practice facility and Athletic Center for Excellence.
