Bowling Green surprises two walk-ons with scholarships (Video)

Two members of the Bowling Green defense received a special surprise after Tuesday’s practice.

Dino Babers, the Falcons’ second-year head coach, called Terrance Bush and Trenton Greene – both walk-ons – in front of the team and gave them good news: they are both now on full scholarship.

Bush, a redshirt junior defensive lineman, has played in 17 games during his time at Bowling Green and is a projected starter heading into the 2015 season. The 6-foot-2, 252-pound Bush has a combined 23 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks in his career.

“It’s been a long journey for me,” Bush said of the scholarship. “I came here. I worked for it. I worked hard and I finally got it. I’m overwhelmed honestly. I’m really happy right now.”

Greene, a 5-foot-9, 213-pound senior linebacker, is the brother of Falcons standout running back Travis Greene. Greene played in 13 games and made 10 tackles on special teams during the 2012 season, but left the school in 2013 and did not play in 2014 after returning to the team.

Now as a senior, Greene is on the two-deep depth chart at linebacker and “will have a large impact,” according to the team.

“It’s a wonderful feeling,” Greene said of receiving a scholarship. “I worked real hard for it day in and day out as a leader on the team. During the summer when nobody’s there and the coaches aren’t there, I was a leader making sure the team got better and the younger players got better. I worked for it and to have it given to me, it means the world.”

Bowling Green went 8-6 and won the MAC East Division in Babers’ first season as head coach. The Falcons open up their 2015 campaign on the road at Tennessee on Sept. 5.
