Utah State quarterback Chuckie Keeton just cannot stay healthy.
USU head coach Matt Wells announced Tuesday that Keeton is out 4-6 weeks with a sprained MCL in his right knee. Wells said Keeton, who missed most of the last two seasons with knee injuries, was injured in the first half of the Aggies’ loss to Washington over the weekend.
Keeton previously tore his left ACL and MCL against BYU in October 2013 but was able to return for the start of the 2014 season, which would have been his senior year. However, Keeton reinjured his left knee against Wake Forest in Week 3 of the 2014 season and was never cleared to return to action.

Utah State petitioned the NCAA to allow Keeton to return for a fifth year, and it was granted in February.
Keeton threw for 3,373 yards and 27 touchdowns while running for 619 yards and eight more scores in 2012 to earn All-WAC honors. Before injuring his knee in 2013, Keeton threw for 1,388 yards and 18 touchdowns for the Aggies.
With Keeton again out of the starting lineup, Wells said sophomore Kent Myers would assume starting duties for the Aggies (1-2). Myers saw extensive playing time late in the 2014 campaign after No. 2 quarterback Darell Garretson was injured. In seven games played, Myers threw for 866 yards, five touchdowns and three interceptions while also rushing for 310 yards and five more scores.
Garretson transferred to Oregon State in the offseason.
Utah State has a bye this weekend before opening Mountain West play at home against Colorado State on Oct. 3.
