Dr. Saturday's daily fantasy picks and advice for Saturday's games

During the past couple weeks, I’ve done lineups for both the early and the late contests on FanDuel. But after looking at the slate of games, I felt better about the choices from the earlier slate. That said, these are going to be some unorthodox plays, so I’m also going to provide an alternate play for each position.

Here’s a quick look at the players I like for this week’s daily fantasy:

QUARTERBACK

EARLY

Drew Kummer, Miami-Ohio ($5,300): There were a lot of good quarterback options for these contests — a lot — but in order to get some of the other players I wanted, I had to find a value quarterback. That said, Kummer should come through with some points. One, he's from a MAC school, so, MACtion; and two, he has a very favorable matchup against a Western Kentucky defense that allows 309.7 passing yards per game. Don't hate on this pick.

Alternate: Matt Johnson, Bowling Green ($8,600); Mason Rudolph, Oklahoma State ($8,100)

RUNNING BACK

EARLY

Leonard Fournette, LSU ($8,700): I think most people are going to have a tough time keeping Fournette out of their daily lineups for the rest of the season, and he has a favorable matchup with a Syracuse defense that hasn’t really been tested in the running game. This is a great opportunity for Fournette to pad his already fantastic stats. Hopefully, he takes advantage of it.

Aaron Green, TCU ($8,300): Green rushed for a season-high 164 yards and two touchdowns against SMU and he should find similar success against a Texas Tech team that’s allowing 257.3 rushing yards per game. This game was tailormade for yards and points.

Alternate: Patrick Skov, Georgia Tech ($5,800) for Green

WIDE RECEIVER

EARLY

Will Fuller ($7,900): Fuller has been the prime receiving target in this Notre Dame offense and he should get quite a few looks against a UMass team that has been shredded in the passing game for 279.5 yards per game. This is a great matchup for Fuller.

Ricky Jones, Indiana ($6,500): Quarterback Nate Sudfeld should have a big game against Wake team that was exposed in its only contest against a decent passing game. Jones is the Hoosiers go-to target and he has two 100-yard games in three contests. He’ll get his third this weekend.

Sam Martin, Miami-Ohio ($5,300): Once again, this pick is all about price and matchup. Martin had four catches for 124 yards and a touchdown against Cincinnati last week. He’ll get more looks against that porous WKU secondary.

Alternates: Jakeem Grant, Texas Tech ($6,900); Aaron Burbridge, Michigan State ($6,800); Isaiah Jones, East Carolina ($5,900)

TIGHT END

LATE

Ben McCord, Central Michigan ($3,000): McCord is Central Michigan’s leading receiver with 16 catches for 306 yards and two touchdowns. Michigan State is not a great matchup, but we know the Spartans’ defense has a habit of giving up yards, especially if they get up in a game. McCord is the Chippewas’ top target and if they’re going to try for a monumental upset, they’re going to need him.

Alternate: Avery Edwards, Maryland ($2,200)
