Southern University wide receiver Devon Gales is hospitalized with a spinal injury following a scary moment in the third quarter of his team's game against Georgia on Saturday.

Gales was on the kickoff return team for Southern and according to OnlineAthens.com, his head appeared to make contact with the shoulder of Georgia kicker Marshall Morgan. He was taken off the field on a stretcher and subsequently transported to the hospital.

From a Southern release:

"Southern University wide receiver Devon Gales sustained a spinal injury during Saturday's contest against the University of Georgia in Sanford Stadium."

"Gales will remain under the care of the doctors at Athens Regional until further notice.
"Southern University and the Jaguar Nation asks for your continued prayers for Devon and the entire Gales family during this difficult time."

Morgan told OnlineAthens after the game that he hoped Gales would be OK.

“I hope the guy is all right,” Morgan said. “I’ll be praying for him and his family.”

Gales is a redshirt sophomore WR from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and didn't have a catch against Georgia. He has one catch for 24 yards in 2015.

Georgia beat Southern 48-6. Georgia running back Nick Chubb ran for 131 yards on 15 carries, his 12th-straight game with over 100 yards rushing.
