Hankins, a junior who is originally from Birmingham, Ala., did not play in Saturday’s loss to Duke. He did play in the two previous games and had three tackles.
Hankins becomes the second middle linebacker to leave the team this year. Anthony Harrell transferred to Florida in the offseason. Hankins and Harrell were in competition to become the starter during the spring.
With Hankins gone, senior Tyler Marcordes will be the top middle linebacker when the Yellow Jackets play a 4-3 set.
