Seven head coaching positions are already open in the FBS this year, but don’t expect New Mexico State to be the eighth.

Athletic director Mario Moccia said Sunday that despite a 52-7 home loss to Troy this past weekend, the school has no plans to part ways with coach Doug Martin.

“Doug Martin is our head coach,” Moccia said. “No changes are going to be made. Doug Martin is going to be our coach next year.”

New Mexico State is 0-7 this year and in the midst of a 17-game losing streak. Martin is 4-27 since taking over the Aggies in 2013, but overall, the program hasn’t had a winning record since 2002.

Moccia said decisions to switch coaches too often have contributed to the lack of consistency.

“We have for many years changed head coaches way too frequently,” Moccia said. “Last night’s loss, the biggest thing, was it was a shock. All of us thought that we would have a much better showing against a team that looked very similar to us. It was disappointing and embarrassing that we didn’t have the fight we had in previous games.”

Martin has two years remaining on his contract, including a one-year contract extension that NMSU announced in February.
