Georgia Tech took a big hit to its defense in Saturday’s loss to Virginia.
Yellow Jackets head coach Paul Johnson confirmed Wednesday that defensive tackle Adam Gotsis will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Gotsis was injured on the first play of the game.
Gotsis, a senior, has been a starter for the past three seasons and is a team captain.
“He was playing at a high level and being the leader of the defense and all that,” Johnson said per the AJC. “I’m more disappointed for him than anything, but he’s got a great attitude. He’s going to bounce back. He’s read to get rehab going and get better.”

Gotsis totaled 31 tackles, five tackles for loss, three sacks and two fumble recoveries through nine games. He also had 36 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and three sacks last year and 38 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks in 2013. In 12 games as a reserve in 2012 he totaled five tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and a sack.
With Gotsis out, Kyle Cerge-Henderson and Francis Kallon saw increased playing time against Virginia. That should be the case moving forward.
Johnson thinks Gotsis, a native of Australia, has a good shot to play in the NFL.
“He’ll get his opportunity to play. It’s just going to be a little later than it probably would have been,” Johnson said.
The Yellow Jackets, now 3-6 on the season, have a bye this week. Next on the schedule is a Nov. 12 home game against Virginia Tech.
