Wake Forest has suspended defensive tackle Josh Banks for the rest of the season, the program announced Thursday.
Demon Deacons head coach Dave Clawson said the suspension was for a violation of team rules.
“I am disappointed this has occurred,” Clawson said per the Winston-Salem Journal. “Hopefully this becomes a teachable moment for Josh and the other players in our program who will benefit in the long run.”
Banks, a redshirt junior, has started 21 consecutive games for Wake Forest. Through nine games this season, Banks has 24 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack and one fumble recovery.
Banks was an honorable mention All-ACC selection in 2014 when he compiled 36 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, four sacks, one interception, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. He also had 13 tackles, two tackles for loss and two sacks as a redshirt freshman in 2013.
He will miss the team’s final three games at Notre Dame on Saturday, at Clemson on Nov. 21 and against Duke at home on Nov. 28. The Demon Deacons are 3-6 (1-5 ACC) this season.
