Duke senior safety Jeremy Cash will miss the New Era Pinstripe Bowl after undergoing surgery on his right wrist Wednesday.
Cash was the ACC’s Defensive Player of the Year and a consensus first-team All-American after posting 101 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, three forced fumbles and a fumble recovery this season. Cash had played the entire season with a wrist injury.
"We're all certainly disappointed for Jeremy, especially in the sense that he'll miss being on the field with his teammates for his final game in a Duke uniform," Duke coach David Cutcliffe said in a statement. "It's really just so unfortunate because of the type of competitor, teammate and leader he is for our program. Going forward, we must continue our preparation for Indiana, and I know our team — and especially our defense — will embrace the challenge."
Redshirt junior Corbin McCarthy will start against Indiana in the bowl game in Cash’s place.
Cash, who was invited to the Senior Bowl, is considered one of the top safeties in the 2016 NFL draft.
