Penn State is reportedly losing two young defensive players to transfer.
According to multiple reports, redshirt freshman Troy Reeder is leaving PSU and transferring to Delaware. After a season-ending injury to Nyeem Wartman-White, Reeder was forced into the starting lineup for the Nittany Lions. He played in all 13 games, starting 11, and finished the season with 67 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and one interception.
Reeder would have likely been the team’s fourth linebacker next year behind Wartman-White and returning starters Jason Cabinda and Brandon Bell.
Reeder is a Wilmington, Delaware native, so the transfer is a return home. According his bio on Penn State’s website, Reeder’s father played at Delaware in the 80’s. Additionally, his younger brother Colby committed to play for the Blue Hens last week over several FBS offers. And because Reeder is transferring down to the FCS level, he will not have to sit out a season and is eligible to play for Delaware immediately in 2016.
Elsewhere, PennLive is reporting that reserve cornerback Daquan Worley will not return to Penn State for the 2016 season. Worley, a redshirt freshman, appeared in five games for the Nittany Lions this season, mainly on special teams, and did not record any statistics.
Worley redshirted the 2014 season after suffering a torn ACL as a high school senior. He was not expected to contend for a starting role in 2016.
Penn State also saw the departures of wideout Geno Lewis, defensive coordinator Bob Shoop and offensive line coach Herb Hand this week. Lewis, who will be a fifth year senior in 2016, announced Monday that he is headed to Oklahoma while Shoop and Hand accepted jobs at Tennessee and Auburn, respectively.
