Texas A&M billboard claiming ‘annexation’ goes up in Gainesville while Aggies fans groan

Texas A&M hasn't even played a game yet in the SEC and it's already become the league's most obnoxious team.

The latest hit is a billboard that popped up in Gainesville, Fla., claiming that the area had been "annexed by Aggie Nation."

Florida plays at Texas A&M on Saturday in the SEC opener for both schools and A&M's first game as a member of its new league.

Here's the entire content of the billboard:

"You've been annexed by Aggie Nation. The Best Academics & Cleanest Program in the SEC. WHOOP! Real Football. Real Tradition."

After the picture of the billboard spread, Jason Cook, VP marketing and communications at Texas A&M University, quickly tried to distance the university from the message.

I think most reasonable people would have assumed that Texas A&M didn't put up the billboard (there are some whispers that Texas fans did it as a joke), but A&M just needs to put its head down, play a game and leave any talking — trash or otherwise — until after it's shown it belongs in the league.

Remember, this isn't the first A&M billboard to pop up somewhere other than College Station, Texas. The university placed a billboard in Austin declaring it "SEC Country" back in early August.

Even though the university didn't put this billboard up, it's another embarrassment, just like the "Welcome to the SEC" video the school produced and abruptly took down earlier this summer.
