Ohio State coach Urban Meyer supports his defensive coordinator.
A day after unsealed testimony alleged Schiano knew of complaints regarding Jerry Sandusky’s abuse during Schiano’s time as an assistant at Penn State, Meyer told the Toledo Blade there is ‘no issue’ regarding Schiano at OSU.
“I’ve known Greg for 20-some years,” Meyer said to the Blade. “I have as much respect for Greg Schiano as I do any person – not just any coach, any person. We had the chat and he told me everything that happened. He stands by his statement and we stand by his statement.
“There’s no issue as far as I am concerned.”
Schiano was hired as Ohio State’s defensive coordinator in December following the departure of defensive coordinator Chris Ash, who became the head coach at Rutgers. Schiano was the head coach at Rutgers for 11 seasons before he left for the NFL to coach the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two seasons.

Schiano, an assistant at Penn State from 1991-1995 tweeted Tuesday he didn’t have any reason to suspect abuse while at Penn State.

Former Penn State assistant coach Mike McQueary, who has said multiple times he witnessed sexual abuse by Sandusky, a former defensive coordinator at Penn State, said former Penn State assistant Tom Bradley (now the defensive coordinator at UCLA) said Schiano came to Bradley’s office at one point and “said he just saw Jerry doing something to a boy in the shower.”
Sandusky, 72 is currently serving a prison sentence of 30-60 years after he was found guilty on 45 charges of sexual abuse.
