West Virginia’s secondary will be without Dravon Askew-Henry in 2016.
The team said Friday that Askew-Henry would miss the season with a torn left ACL.
“This is a tremendous loss for our football team,” WVU coach Dana Holgorsen said in a statement. “Without a doubt Dravon was one of our leaders on and off the field. We will support him through his recovery and work with him to get him 100 percent back to health.”

Askew-Henry started all 26 of his career games at WVU at safety. He had 59 tackles and an interception last season and was the team’s leading returning tackler. He’ll likely be able to take a medical redshirt if he so chooses.
Askew-Henry was one of two returning starters in West Virginia’s secondary. The Mountaineers are replacing Daryl Worley and Karl Joseph in the defensive backfield and have just four returning starters on defense counting Askew-Henry.
West Virginia opens the 2016 season on Sep. 4 against Missouri.
