Fresno State defensive back Derron Smith won the award for the most athletic play of the night with a spectacular interception against Rutgers Gary Nova.
Nova’s pass was tipped and smith jumped in front of the would-be receiver, yanked the ball from his hands which cause him to spin around mid-air. However, he still managed to land with both feet in-bounds and keep the ball nestled in one arm.
It was truly spectacular.
And it came at a great time because Fresno State had just turned the ball over the play before.
Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, the elation was short-lived as they turned the ball back over on the next possession, which led to a Rutgers touchdown.
