Gus Malzahn has led Auburn on an impressive turnaround in his first season at the helm. Using his Hurry-Up, No-Huddle offense, the Tigers are 10-1 as they prepare for next Saturday’s Iron Bowl against Alabama.
With the success of his offense (which Malzahn wrote a book about in 2003), Malzahn’s company, HUNH, LLC, applied to trademark the phrase Hurry Up No Huddle” on November 13, Jon Solomon of Al.com reports. The application is reportedly for glassware and clothing.
Solomon also points out that the J&M Bookstore in Auburn has been selling “HUNH” t-shirts this year for $17.99. The shirts say “QUIT YOUR WHINING (You get 3 time-outs)” on the back, a jab at coaches who have complained about the offensive tempo of Malzahn’s offense.
A coach applying for trademarks is a growing recent trend. For example, Clemson’s Dabo Swinney trademarked his own name and has a licensing deal allowing the University to sell merchandise with his name and likeness.
