Texas A&M star quarterback Johnny Manziel is just a redshirt sophomore, but the Heisman winner is already considered to be a potential high round selection in the NFL Draft. The only question that remained was if Manziel would enter the draft this year or in the future.
According to A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, we’ll have the answer soon.
On the “SVP & Russillo” show on ESPN Radio Friday, Sumlin said that Manziel will announce his intentions before the Aggies’ bowl game. Sumlin added that he has not talked to his quarterback about the decision.
“We haven’t had that conversation,” Sumlin said. “My job is to get him all the facts that we can get him. We’ll have that discussion after the Missouri game, certainly during the bowl preparation. I’m sure the announcement will be made at that time.”
A&M’s regular season ends Nov. 30 at Missouri and the earliest possible bowl game for an SEC team is Dec. 30. Manziel has thrown 31 touchdown passes and run for eight this season and is a candidate to win the Heisman for the second year in a row.
“He’s handled things on the field as well as any player in the country,” Sumlin said. “He’s a special talent. His energy, his leadership on the team is evident, and he continues to get better every week.”
