The Texas Longhorns will be without its leading tackler in the season finale against Baylor next Saturday due to an unusual and particularly gruesome-sounding injury.
Junior linebacker Steve Edmond suffered a lacerated liver during the Longhorns’ Thanksgiving win over Texas Tech. He has been ruled out for the rest of the regular season and there is no timetable for his return.
Edmond, who leads the team with 73 tackles, went down in the second quarter of the Texas Tech game after a hard hit on a block from receiver Eric Ward.
Edmond is the fifth starter Texas has lost to injury this season joining quarterback David Ash, running back Johnathan Gray, defensive tackle Chris Whaley, linebackers Jordan Hicks and Tevin Jackson and cornerback Sheroid Evans.
