The search for the next head coach at Texas is a hot topic in the world of college football right now and despite his team preparing for the BCS National Championship on Monday, Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher has been a name that has been brought up in the search.
During Friday’s media session, Fisher’s best player, Heisman-winning quarterback Jameis Winston, was asked about the Fisher-to-Texas rumors and about his dreams of playing at Texas when he was younger.
“Through the whole recruiting process, I said to my coach, ‘We got to get Texas on the phone.’ When I was young, I looked up to Vince Young. I always wanted to go to Texas,” Winston said.
Winston never spoke with then-Texas coach Mack Brown during the recruiting process, but said he tried to call him “a couple times.” Winston also mentioned that he has joked with Fisher about the Texas rumors.
“I messed with Coach Fisher about that. Coach Fisher and me, we’re not worried about that. We’re worried about winning the national championship,” Winston said.
But if Fisher does go to Texas?
Jameis Winston: "Even if Coach Fisher goes to Texas, I'm going to ask him can I go w/you? Yeah I'm serious. He's my coach"

Jameis Winston says he messes w jimbo fisher about leaving for #texas all the time. "I'm gonna ask, 'can I go with u?' He's my coach" — Bruce Feldman (@BFeldmanCBS) January 3, 2014
Winston said he was "serious" about leaving w Jimbo if Fisher left for #Texas to also go to UT. Didn't look serious when he said it fwiw.

With Art Briles and Jim Mora both saying publicly today that they are not interested in the Texas job, names are being crossed off of Texas’ list. No reports of Fisher reciprocating interest in the job have made the rounds, but things can always change once Florida State heads into the offseason after Monday’s game.
