Recruit says Louisville’s new coaching staff won’t honor his commitment

Prep running back Daniel Gresham is looking for a new school after he says Louisville's new coaching staff won't honor his commitment.

Gresham tweeted Sunday night that Louisville told him that it wouldn't have a scholarship available.

Gresham, a three-star running back per Rivals, chose Louisville when Charlie Strong was the Cardinals' head coach. He kept his commitment when Strong became the new coach of the Texas Longhorns. However, with Bobby Petrino as the team's new head coach and former UAB coach Garrick McGee running the offense, his services apparently aren't needed.

Unfortunately, moves like this are part of the recruiting process when coaching staffs change. It's not much different than oversigning. That's when a coaching staff signs more recruits than there are scholarships available and some players get left without one.

Coincidentally, Gresham originally committed to Texas before he committed to Louisville in the summer. Now the door is open again for him to play for Charlie Strong if he'd like and there are scholarships available. Gresham originally grew up in Louisville before his family moved to Fort Worth, Tx.

According to the Louisville Courier-Journal, Louisville has lost five other recruits to different schools since the coaching change. The Cardinals' 2014 recruiting class was originally ranked 37th by Rivals as the school moves to the ACC next season.
