One of the top running backs in the country has flipped his commitment from one Texas school to another.
Two days after decommitting from Texas A&M, four-star all-purpose back Varshuan Nixon has committed to play for the TCU Horned Frogs.
The 5-foot-10, 195-pound Austin native originally committed to A&M back in November 2012, but after an official visit with Gary Patterson and company this weekend, he decided ultimately to make the switch on Tuesday.
Nixon is rated the No. 6 all-purpose back in the nation and is ranked No. 147 overall by Rivals in the class of 2014. He is TCU’s highest-rated Rivals commitment since wide receiver Ladarius Brown (No. 53) committed to the Horned Frogs in 2011. Nixon also had offers from Baylor, Clemson, and Nebraska, among others.
TCU has picked up a flurry of commitments in the new year. Including Nixon, the Horned Frogs have picked up 12 2014 commitments since three-star receiver Emanuel Porter flipped from Texas on Jan. 16.
Porter had originally committed to TCU back in August of 2012, but the Dallas native soon reconsidered and committed to Mack Brown and Texas. When Brown resigned and Charlie Strong was hired, Porter decided to flip back to TCU. While he is committed to the Horned Frogs for now, he is still considering LSU according to Rivals.
With signing day on the horizon on Wednesday, the Horned Frogs are looking to finish strong by locking up four-star offensive lineman Braden Smith. Smith, the No. 50 overall prospect in the nation according to Rivals, will decide between TCU, Texas A&M, Auburn and Notre Dame.
