Oklahoma self-reported a number of minor NCAA violations in the past 18 months, and through an open records request, The Oklahoman shed light on some of the ridiculous “infractions” that schools often have to report to the NCAA.
Since the violations were released on Tuesday, one specific violation has garnered the most attention. Apparently at a graduation banquet three student-athletes who had already graduated but had one more season of eligibility “were provided pasta in excess of the permissible amount allowed.”
Seriously.
To repay for their egregious overeating, the players were each “required to donate $3.83 (the cost of the pasta serving) to a charity of their choice” in order to have their eligibility reinstated.
To add to the ridiculousness of it all, the NCAA responded in a statement by saying that there are no NCAA rules regarding portion sizes, so even some school compliance departments don’t understand all of the intricacies of the NCAA rulebook.
Just to clarify… there are no NCAA rules regarding portion sizes, though we appreciate Oklahoma's commitment to play by the rules.

Two of the players involved, Gabe Ikard and Austin Woods looked at the situation lightheartedly. They even donated an extra $1.17!
@GabeIkard @SportsCenter that was some great pasta! We felt we ate more than $3.83 so we donated $5. — Austin Woods (@AwesomeWoods_50) February 19, 2014
