Former Notre Dame standout defensive tackle Louis Nix III has dropped 23 pounds since the season ended in preparation for the NFL. He weighed in at 331 pounds at the combine on Sunday and the man is proud of the work he has done to slim down.
“My stomach doesn’t stick out as much,” Nix said Sunday. “That’s kind of nice. I enjoy that part of it. My thighs got a little smaller. I just feel sexier, man.”
Nix’s combination of size, strength and quickness have draft experts projecting him as a potential first round selection, but the end of Nix’s collegiate career was plagued by knee problems. He had surgery in the offseason to repair a torn meniscus and he told the Chicago Tribune that his knee “is fantastic” right now.
Nix is confident that he is versatile enough to be a fit in any defensive scheme – whether it is as a nose tackle in a 3-4 scheme or as a one or three-technique tackle in a 4-3 defense. He wants to keep his weight around 330 pounds instead of fluctuating in the territory of 350. To do so, he’s had to steer clear of some of his favorite meals.
“I enjoy my share of Five Guys and Cajun fries,” Nix said. “But I’m starting to like salads. As long as it tastes good. No dressing. I eat it like chips. Just pick it up and go.”
You do what you have to do to look sexier (and be an NFL draft pick), I suppose.
