Marketing of satellite camps on social media reportedly banned

While Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh may still be able to troll other coaches about his camps, he can't promote the satellite camps he'll be attending.

According to ESPN, coaches are now prohibited from advertising satellite camps to possible recruits.

From ESPN:

The NCAA academic and membership affairs staff issued an interpretation on May 1 that says coaches should not play any role in developing the promotional materials or promoting the non-institutional camp or clinic online, via social media or in recruiting correspondence.

The NCAA will allow a coach who is employed at a non-institutional camp to have his quotations and likeness used in promotional materials, but the days of recruiters encouraging prospects to attend these camps via social media and through direct mailings are over.

The debate over satellite camps intensified last year when Penn State had a camp with Georgia State. It reintensified this offseason as Michigan staffers were attending nine camps in seven states.

Schools aren't allowed to host camps outside of a 50-mile radius of campus. However, if coaches guest at camps hosted by others, they are allowed to attend, at least outside of the SEC and ACC. The two conferences have banned their coaches from guest-coaching at camps outside the radius.
