Ole Miss offensive guard Rod Taylor suffered a shoulder injury Wednesday while participating in what an Ole Miss spokesman confirmed was a non-football activity.

According to Rivals site RebelGrove.com, the injury occurred because of or was made worse while Taylor was participating in a boxing match.

The following video also was posted on the RebelGrove message board:

There is no confirmation about the exact injury or its severity. Ole Miss was waiting to get an MRI Thursday afternoon and coach Hugh Freeze will meet with the media on Friday.

If Taylor does miss an extended amount of time, it would decimate an already thin offensive line. Taylor, who is 6-foot-3, 320 pounds, already had spent time during camp working at both right guard and center.

On Wednesday, Taylor received praise from offensive line coach Matt Luke for his newfound dedication and work ethic.

“Rod has been doing the little things off the field — accountability, discipline, getting here on time. Doing the little things right," Luke said. "Athleticism and talent aren’t Rod’s issues. He just needs to focus."
