Coach George O’Leary said he learned the day before camp started that the redshirt senior leader would need surgery.

"I was sick over it when I heard it but he's on schedule to be operated on," O'Leary said Thursday. "He was working out on a Sunday, nobody with the team, some of the pro players and suffered a knee injury."
Anderson was supposed to be one of two seniors anchoring the defensive line for the Knights this season. He started 11 games last season and had a career-high 34 tackles, 3.5 sacks and 8.5 tackles for loss.
O’Leary said the university would seek a sixth season for Anderson.
With Anderson out, UCF will look to senior Lance McDowdell and sophomore Jamiyus Pittman to fill the starting role.
