Penn State’s special teams unit missed a big opportunity to give the struggling Nittany Lions offense great field position early in Saturday’s game against Buffalo.
After the PSU defense stopped the Bulls’ offense on the first drive of the game, sophomore safety Troy Apke had an unblocked path to Buffalo punter Tyler Grassman, but somehow completely whiffed on what should have been a blocked punt.

Apke had a clear shot for a big play, but basically ran past Grassman. Either he was surprised at how easily he got to the punter, or he didn’t want to get a roughing penalty.
Nonetheless, it was a big missed opportunity for the Nittany Lions, who struggled for much of the game before pulling away for a 27-14 win.
