Pitt running back James Conner received a note of encouragement from an ACC opponent after suffering a season-ending knee injury.
Conner, the 2014 ACC Player of the Year, posted a note sent from Duke head coach David Cutcliffe to wish him well in his recovery. The note is dated Sept. 8, the day after Pitt announced that Conner would miss the rest of the season.
Conner suffered a torn MCL in the second quarter of the Panthers’ season-opening win over Youngstown State on Sept. 5 and recently had surgery to repair the damaged ligament.

The 6-foot-2, 240-pound Conner rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns in 2014.
The Panthers are 2-0 after beating Akron over the weekend. Next on the schedule is a trip to Iowa. Duke, also 2-0, hosts Northwestern on Saturday.
The ACC Coastal Division foes meet in Durham on Nov. 14.
