The Miami athletic department emailed a statement shortly after the incident saying he was “transported to the hospital for precautionary reasons.”

The university updated Gayot’s condition saying he was expected to make a full recovery.

“[Gayot] has undergone a battery of tests and will be kept overnight for precaution. He will be placed in a neck collar and released tomorrow morning. He is expected to make a full recovery. “

Gayot has played in all three games for the Hurricanes this season making seven tackles, including 2.5 for los and 1.5 sacks. He played in six games as a freshman a year ago.

According to various reports, a helicopter was sent to Miami’s practice field where Gayot was treated, stabilized and ultimately airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital.

Coach Al Golden was scheduled to speak on the ACC conference call Wednesday, but missed the call “due to a situation.” He has not addressed this injury.

Miami, which is 3-0, is off this week and plays Cincinnati on Oct. 1.
