(via UGA Athletics)Georgia took a hit to its secondary depth on Wednesday.

The program announced that redshirt sophomore defensive back Tramel Terry has decided to transfer. Terry said he’s leaving the Bulldogs to pursue more playing time elsewhere.

“I appreciate the opportunity provided by Georgia,” Terry said in a statement. “I have many friends here but believe I’ll have a better chance for playing time somewhere else.”

According to UGASports.com, Terry tore his ACL in an all-star game as a high school senior, prompting him to redshirt his first season on campus. He practiced as a wide receiver that season but moved to defensive back in 2014. He played in 10 games for the Bulldogs last year, registering 10 tackles and an interception.

Terry had played in each of the Bulldogs’ first three games this season, mainly on special teams.

“Playing time is important to every player and I understand the way he feels,” head coach Mark Richt said in a statement. “We wish him nothing but success at his next school and will assist any way we can in the process.”

Terry, a native of Goose Creek, S.C., was a four-star recruit in the 2013 class.

He told The State that UGA has not put any restrictions on his transfer and that he would “definitely want to look” at any opportunities to play in his home state.
