Looks like Virginia Tech will be sporting a couple different looks this season.

According to coach Frank Beamer's official site Beamerball.com, the Hokies will wear special white helmets with poultry feet for the "White Effect" game against Austin Peay on Sept. 8, and camouflage uniforms for "Military Appreciation Day" against Bowling Green on Sept. 22.

The "White Effect" game is a white out, where the team wears all-white uniforms and encourages the fans to also wear white to give the stadium a pretty cool effect. The white helmet with the HokieBird feet on it has got to one of the most original helmets we've seen in quite some time. What's a HokieBird? Well, it's the turkey-looking Virginia Tech mascot. Virginia Tech actually used to be nicknamed the Fighting Gobblers. There's your Virginia Tech history lesson for the day. Who says you don't learn things here?

Some might call the helmet fowl (see what I did there?), but I like that Virginia Tech is going with something different and fun. But if they were trying to be intimidating, this probably isn't going to do it.

Besides, unless you're at the game, the only way most people will see these helmets will be if they're checking out the game on the Internet.

So what do you think of Virginia Tech's bold uniform choices for the nonconference season?
