Georgia QB Aaron Murray isn’t worried about his record against top 10 teams

After losing to Clemson in the first week of the season, Georgia quarterback Aaron Murray's record against teams ranked in the top 10 fell to 1-9.

He's got another chance against South Carolina on Saturday in Athens. Afterwards, his record will be either 2-9 or 1-10. Either way, Murray says he doesn't worry about his wins and losses against top teams.

From the Athens-Banner Herald:

“I’m not worried,” Murray said. “I don’t. Everyone’s going to focus on Aaron’s record versus top opponents, but we know it’s a team game and that’s all that matters.”

Murray has started all four years at Georgia; that's why South Carolina will be his 11th game against a top 10 team. That win came last year against Florida, who was ranked No. 2 when the Bulldogs beat them 17-9 in Jacksonville.

While it's fun to equate Murray with being the college football version of Tony Romo -- an unclutch accusation against Romo that isn't really fair -- that game against Florida is a perfect example of how much context weighs into quarterbacks' win and loss records. Against the Gators, Murray was 12-24 for 150 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. Who knows what would have happened had the Georgia defense not forced six turnovers?

Murray's got the right attitude here. Just like pitcher wins and losses in baseball, quarterback wins will hang around and be used to continue storylines. If Georgia hadn't dropped the snap on a chip-shot field goal early in the fourth against Clemson, the game would have been tied 31-31. Who knows where it would have gone from there?

Instead, it ended 38-35 and Murray has spent the week discussing his win-loss record. Will it still be a point of contention next week? We'll find out Saturday.
