Jadeveon Clowney said he is going to put up ‘amazing’ numbers in the NFL combine

There was a time when Jadeveon Clowney was considered a lock to be the top pick in the NFL draft. The expectations for his junior year were sky-high, but injuries plagued him as the season went on and he registered just three sacks and he was no longer considered a sure thing to be selected first.

With the NFL scouting combine approaching on Feb. 24, the 6-foot-6, 274-pound Clowney is looking to turn heads again. In fact, he told Josh Kendall of The State that he will participate in all drills at the combine and that his numbers will be “amazing.”

Clowney is a ridiculous athlete. Anyone who has watched him play knows that, but his effort on the field has been questioned at times as he did not dominate on a consistent basis like he was expected to after his monster sophomore year.

The combine can often have a considerable impact on where a prospect gets picked. If Clowney puts up “amazing” numbers like he says he will, he could potentially cement himself as the No. 1 pick and put any concerns or doubts people have to rest.

Shutdown Corner’s Eric Edholm’s most recent mock draft has Clowney being selected first by the Houston Texans. Texans owner Bob McNair called Clowney a “once-in-every-10-years kind of physical specimen,” so a top-notch combine performance (and the thought of pairing him with J.J. Watt) could make Clowney too good to pass up.
